Welcome

Welcome to the Central Hudson Retirees’ web site, a communal gathering place developed for and maintained by retirees.

After months of gathering names, finding addresses and telephone numbers, making calls and connections, chasing down all you travelers out there (doesn’t anybody stay put anymore?) and many e-mail and snail mail adventures (that’s the US Postal Service for the much older generations), we are pleased to welcome you to the first website created solely for and by retirees of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp of Poughkeepsie, NY. www.cenhud.com/index.html.

While we may not all have crossed paths with one another during our careers, we all have something in common now – this exciting, new (and for some not so new) phase of our lives called “retirement”, described by many as ‘the best job I ever had’. Who could have imagined when we first came to work that the water cooler conversations and the tailboard ‘discussions’ would someday be replaced by the Internet and e-mail – We’ve come a long way, baby!

This web site is solely for the use and enjoyment of its members; that’s why the name ends in “.org”. Just as we were a workforce before retirement, we are now an organization. A nominal fee is requested to help with the operation and maintenance of the web site, the addition of new features and to make sure everything is up to date and secure. Any excess covers the preparation & mailing of ‘The List’ to those retirees who have no PCs or e-mail or the means to access the Internet and who truly need the list of names and addresses of old friends from long ago. Currently they are 40% of our group. Some have chipped in, others have not. My vision for this effort from the beginning was of a shared effort so that each retiree on the list would get at least one copy of the list each year regardless of their circumstances for as long as we were able to do so.
